Tuning: Configure GReddy e-Manage Ultimate Software
Goal: To get the best drive ability from a piggyback fuel controller and still use correct stock timing map and correct stock fueling AFR for part throttle.
Hardware: eManage ultimate, stage 3 wiring (boomslang okay), greddy pressure sensor, compatible wideband O2 sensor, greddy CEL adapter, stock MAF.
Prerequiste: Ensure all emanage hardware jumpers are in their default position.
Tuning difficulty level: 5 out of 10.
Definitions: Input injector duty cycle = duty cycle the stock ECU thinks it is, and feeds as an input to emanage.
Output injector duty cycle = actual or real duty cycle that the fuel injectors operate at (comes as an output from emanage).
- Update to the latest software/firmware.
- Run software and Click on Parameter Settings (little blue car icon).
- Click on Vehicle tab, and select 6G72 engine code.
- Click on Map Select tab and pick Airflow Adjustment map, I/J Adj. Map 1, Boost Limiter Cut Setting.
- Click on Throttle tab and define MIN and MAX settings. With the engine off, just push the throttle all the way down and emanage will automatically fill in the settings for you for MIN and MAX.
- Click on the I/J tab, and fill in the I/J Size and I/J Lag time settings. For my RC550 injectors I used the follow:
- Click on OK and start your engine. Your idle AFR should be around 12.5-13.5 if your engine coolant is cold, but once warmed up the AFR should be around 14.7. With the correct injector lag time and injector sizing values your car is now driveable up to xx PSI. For 550cc injectors and 15G turbos this meant I could get up to 8 PSI before reaching 95-100% input injector duty cycle.
- This is where things get tricky. Emanage utlimate doesn't operate correctly when your input injector duty cycle reaches 95-100% (or above 20ms injector duration) and runs a very rich AFR. What we need to do is prevent the input injector duty cycle from ever reaching that critical point by freezing the airflow Hz signal and add all additional fuel requirements above 8 PSI with the help of the greddy pressure sensor. Let's configure pressure sensor and wideband sensor next.
- Click on Parameter Settings, select Front Panel tab, Option 1 select Greddy Pressure Sensor (assuming that's where you plugged it in). Next select A/F meter for Option 2, and fill in the correct attributes. For my PLX M300 I select OTHER, 10 and 20 for my AFR ranges. 0 volts = 10 AFR, 5 volts = 20 AFR. Click Apply.
- Click on the datalog icon and make a run to find out which airflow Hz signal represents produces 95-100% input injector duty cycle. For me the value was around 1550 Hz, so I rounded down to 1500 Hz.
- Click on the Boost Limiter Cut Setting map and fill in 1500 Hz into every cell. Emanage from now on will fool the stock ECU (airflow input) that the airflow is no greater than 1500 Hz even though in reality it may be larger. We've satisfied emanage requirement to keep the input injector duty cycle below 95%.
- From the pull down menu look for Unit, and lets change Relative and Absolute from kpa to PSI.
- With the I/J Adj. Map1 fuel map empty, this is dangerous. For safety, reduce the boost down to 8psi and let's fill in the map with duty cycle numbers. Something is better than nothing, because if you accidentally overboost it's better to be rich than lean. Select the I/J Adj. Map1 and lets reconfigure the load scale. Look for Airflow Karman(Hz) and change this load scale to Relative Pressure (PSI). The PSI range from -14.5 to 8 PSI won't do us any good as that's already tuned for, I suggest starting at 9 PSI and increment in 1 PSI steps or whatever you're comfortable with; use the Change Scale button to make changes. On my I/J Adj. Map1 it goes from 9psi to 24psi. Enter 5.0 for the entire 9psi row, and 100.0 for 24psi row. Highlight the entire map and pick interpolate 4 corners to fill in all cells. Congratulations you've got some data, although it may be incorrect it's much better than zero.
- With your boost controller set to 9 psi, verify and adjust your fuel map 9psi row until you've reach 11.5 AFR consistently. If your guess is really off, it would be a good time to adjust the next row beforehand.
- Increment the boost controller to the next PSI step, verify and adjust.
